China promises technology transfer to Nigeria

The China Railway Construction Corporation Limited (CRCC) in Beijing and one of its subsidiaries in Nigeria has proposed to cite a University in either Lagos or Port Harcourt to train Nigerians on technology.

CRCC which ranked as the third largest construction and engineering company in the world last year, currently runs several projects in the country and has plan to transfer technology to Nigeria.

The Executive President, Overseas Operations, CRCC, Cao Baogang, Nigeria remains the biggest market of the corporation with a robust relationship spanning over 30 years.

He disclosed that with the Corporation’s investments in Nigeria, the country deserves more than the existing training school and has therefore decided to establish a university that would train and elevate Nigerians in the area of technological expertise.

He also revealed that Nigerians constitute 93% of the more than 12,500 local staff in the over 100 projects of the corporation across the nation including the Abuja rail mass transit project from the FCT to Kaduna, Lagos–Ibadan railway project and the Lekki Free zone project, among others.

Baogang added that the corporation with one of its Nigerian subsidiaries, CCECC would not relent in training Nigerians at different levels.

He pointed out that the corporation was present in 128 countries with 46 in Africa alone, noting that the creation of a seaport was germane to making an economic hub.

He said security was the major challenge facing the corporation in Nigeria, especially in the Northern part of the country, adding, “no safety no economic growth.”
